The Tambour Foundation, a small, private charitable foundation focused on educational and other advancement opportunities around the world, has donated $1.25 million to Chadwick School to double the size of the MacFarlane Leadership Scholarship Fund. The additional funding is expected to double the number of MacFarlane Leadership Scholars attending Chadwick’s Upper School, increasing the number of Scholars to eight by the 2017-18 academic year.

The gift was motivated by alumni parents Roger and Ruth MacFarlane, who approached the Tambour Foundation on Chadwick’s behalf. Ruth MacFarlane is a longtime member of the Roessler-Chadwick Foundation Board of Trustees, and Ruth and Roger co-chaired Chadwick’s Annual Fund in 1996 and 1997.

The MacFarlanes, who are the parents of Chadwick alumni Taryn ’94, Alex ’95, Katherine ’05, and Jessica ’07, established the MacFarlane Leadership Scholarship Fund in 2007 to fund the MacFarlane Leadership Scholarship in perpetuity. The Scholarship is awarded to a candidate for admission to Chadwick’s ninth grade who demonstrates high academic achievement, leadership skills, and financial need. The first three MacFarlane Leadership Scholars have already graduated, and are currently thriving at their respective colleges.

Chadwick awards over $3 million annually in financial aid to approximately 17.5 percent of its 830 students in grades K-12.
