Applying to Chadwick
General Information
Chadwick School’s application period always begins one year in
advance of a child’s anticipated entry. Choose "Admission Calendar"
from the admission pop-out menu at the left for a list of important
dates to remember during the process. Each application should be
accompanied by a $125 fee, which covers application administration,
evaluation, and at some grade levels, testing. See below for more

Decisions
Steps for Submitting the Application
- STEP ONE: Complete a current application form. New forms are available in the Admission Office and on the Web site each July.
- STEP TWO: Fill out the forms for “Release of School Records” and send them to your child’s current school, along with the Chadwick pre-addressed envelopes. Teachers should submit their recommendation forms directly to the Chadwick School admission office.
- STEP THREE: Schedule interviews. Because we want to get to know
our applicants and their families, and we want you to get to know us, Chadwick’s application process
is comprised of a series of evaluations, visits and interviews. Once we
have processed the application, we will begin scheduling each of these
events. The process differs slightly at each grade level.

Visits, Interviews and Testing
Kindergarten
Kindergarten candidates must be five years of age by Sept. 1 of the
year of their projected enrollment. Two evaluations are scheduled in order to determine a child’s kindergarten readiness. Once the application
is submitted and processed we will be setting up each child’s
individual and group evaluations, which include a one-on-one visit and
a group play time in our kindergarten facilities. A third appointment,
a parent visit, will also be scheduled.
Grades 1 to 4
All children submitting applications for Grades 1 through 4 are
automatically scheduled to attend a Saturday morning testing session.
Tests are administered on the Chadwick campus, and the costs for test
administration and evaluation are included in the application fee. The
completion of this exam is a necessary part of the application process;
consequently, each applicant family should reserve the date for this
event — Saturday, February 26, 2011.
Group interviews for students and parent interviews are scheduled for all applicants in Grades 1
through 4.
Grades 5 and 6
All 5th and 6th grade applicants are required to take the
Independent School’s Entrance Exam (ISEE). The exam is a function of
the Educational Records Bureau
(ERB), an independent agency that provides admission
testing, both nationally and internationally, for students who are
applying to independent schools. All exams are returned to the ERB and
the results are released only to the students’ families and to those
schools that they have selected to receive that information.
Arrangements for the completion of the ISEE are the responsibility of
each applying family. Reservations for testing are made through the
ERB, and payment for the testing is made to that agency.
All 5th and 6th grade applicants are scheduled for group interviews.
Grades 5 and 6 Parent Interviews
Fifth- and sixth-grade parent interviews are scheduled as each application is
processed, usually within a week of application submission. A
representative from the admission office will call to schedule the
parent visit.
Grades 7 and 8
All 7th and 8th grade applicants are required to take the
Independent School’s Entrance Exam (ISEE). The exam is a function of
the Educational Records Bureau
(ERB), an independent agency that provides admission
testing, both nationally and internationally, for students who are
applying to independent schools. All exams are returned to the ERB and
the results are released only to the students’ families and to those
schools that they have selected to receive that information.
Arrangements for the completion of the ISEE are the responsibility of
each applying family. Reservations for testing are made through the
ERB, and payment for the testing is made to that agency.
Once the application is submitted and processed, each Middle School applicant will be scheduled for a campus visit and an interview with a
member of the Middle School admission committee. Parents will also be
scheduled for an interview.
Please call the admission office to arrange appointments and
interviews one week following application submission: (310) 377-1543, ext.4029.
Grade 9
All applicants for Grade 9 are required to take the
Independent School’s Entrance Exam (ISEE). The exam is a function of
the Educational Records Bureau
(ERB), an independent agency that provides admission
testing, both nationally and internationally, for students who are
applying to independent schools. All exams are returned to the ERB and
the results are released only to the students’ families and to those
schools that they have selected to receive that information.
Arrangements for the completion of the ISEE are the responsibility of
each applying family. Reservations for testing are made through the
ERB, and payment for the testing is made to that agency.
Once the application is submitted and processed, each 9th grade applicant will be scheduled for a campus visit and an interview with a
member of the Upper School admission committee. Parents will also be
scheduled for an on-campus interview.
Please call the admission office to arrange appointments and
interviews one week following application submission:(310) 377-1543, ext. 4029.
