World History 9
Prerequisites: none
Who the course is designed for: all 9th grade students
This history course covers the Modern World from about 1750 to the present. Although it is the last in a three-year sequence of World History that began in seventh grade, the class can stand alone. This period of history covers major developments in social, political, intellectual, cultural and economic life. An understanding of these topics will illuminate students' grasp of events and issues in their own times. During the year students have the opportunity to develop and enhance skills in research, reading, writing and oral presentation. Working with important concepts and issues allows students to hone their critical thinking and analytical skills. In addition to the textbook, students are exposed to supplementary readings, including primary source documents in order to deepen their understanding of history.
