AP Art History
Prerequisites: none; teacher approval is recommended.
Who the course is designed for: strong and motivated 11th or 12th grade history students who enjoy engaging with art
Art is another way of looking at our world, a way of more fully understanding our lives. In Art History we begin with the first artists' decoration of their world in the caves of Lascoux and progress to the art of the late 20th Century. Along the way, we learn how to identify characteristics of style particular to periods, schools, and artists. We learn to look in new ways, developing our "visual literacy." We explore the relationship between art and the context of ideas in which art is created. Students enrolling in this course should have well developed reading and study skills and be able to write with ease and clarity.
