Lizzie's

Story

“I like music because you can try new things with your voice. Music also has a lot of things you can do, a lot of different instruments.

In class, we write songs and create music. We play our songs on instruments. It’s really fun. I’ve always liked singing and the arts — painting, sewing and designing outfits.

I love that there is no pressure at Chadwick, and all of the teachers are very nice. In math today, I didn’t understand division. It was my first time doing it. I got a little scared, but no one made fun of me. Everyone was really nice and understanding. It’s easy to make friends.

The campus itself is very calm. The canyon is so beautiful, and you get to learn about nature. We do nature hikes down in the canyon and learn about all of the plants.”

On Lizzie

“Lizzie takes singing very seriously. She wants to learn and be the best that she can be. She wants the performance to go off without a hitch.

She loves following the core values. She’s extremely respectful of the teachers and her peers. She’s compassionate. She wants others to succeed and wants to help them do the right thing. She’s a model Chadwick student.

With Village School music, it’s not about solos. It’s about the community, the collaboration among the students.

Music is an outlet for creativity. It’s a safe place to take risks, and it helps with other school subjects. At the core, it’s about creating a child who’s going to grow up and be a well-rounded human being. They might not become a professional musician, but if they have an appreciation and love for the arts, they will see what arts can do for expanding their lives.”
