Page turners, unite!

Our Middle School Summer Term Program offers a track for rising seventh and eighth graders that includes two engaging, studio-style courses designed to strengthen core academic skills while building confidence and curiosity. Math Studio strengthens algebraic thinking and problem-solving skills, while Writing Studio builds essential literacy skills through purposeful reading, writing, and communication. These courses are uniquely Chadwick: aligned with our academic curriculum, taught by experienced Chadwick teachers, and focused on the critical and creative thinking and communication skills that matter most in middle school. Enrollment is limited to 20 students per section; spaces are reserved as registrations are received.

Course Descriptions

Math Studio: Math, Design, and Engineering

Math Studio is a concept-rich, hands-on course that invites students to experience algebra as a creative tool for describing how things work. Through building, designing, puzzling, and modeling, students explore patterns, relationships, and systems using physical materials, diagrams, graphs, and symbolic expressions. The course emphasizes sense-making over speed or memorization. Students build their mathematical conceptual understanding and problem-solving while they test ideas, revise thinking, and see how mathematical concepts fit together. With multiple entry points built into every task, students work on shared, rigorous mathematical ideas while accessing them at different levels of complexity and abstraction.

Writing Studio: A Summer Word Shop

The Word Studio is an active, workshop-style course where students strengthen reading comprehension and develop confident, purposeful writing. Each week, students study engaging texts while focusing on a different genre, ranging from personal narrative to expository and persuasive writing. Through collaborative projects and hands-on activities, students build confidence as both critical readers and effective writers. In this dynamic studio environment, students develop and refine ideas while polishing their prose. By the end of the summer, students will have developed stronger reading comprehension, a sharper voice, and the tools to approach any reading or writing challenge.

Please Note: Seventh and eighth graders must be picked up at 12:30 p.m. unless enrolled in afternoon Summer Program classes. Afternoon bus service is available only at 3:00 p.m.
