As a school community, our goal is to develop and enhance in our students the knowledge, skills, and disposition required to understand multiple perspectives and thrive and lead in an increasingly interconnected world. As globally competent citizens, our students understand themselves and their own societies and identities in order to constructively interact and learn from others within and across cultures and become leaders in the international effort to achieve a more humane, just, and peaceful global society.

Upper School Global Programs 2017-18

Applications for 2017-18 Upper School Global Programs will be released on Monday, Oct. 2, and will be due by Monday, Oct. 16, 2017.

The ROUND SQUARE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE is a unique opportunity for students to intensively experience the interconnected nature of our world as well as the greatest benefits of the Round Square network. Students are selected in the spring of the year prior, with applications released early in the second semester. The conference itself involves activities related to the Round Square IDEALS (Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service) as well as lots of opportunities to expand their sense of self and community through connections to people from nearly 200 different schools across the globe. The conference information will be released in the winter--students will have another opportunity to apply then. The conference generally takes place in October and lasts two weeks.

Tentative Cost: Chadwick pays the conference fees; families pay for airfare and pre-conference fees, which depend on location and the host school


The CI LEADERSHIP GRANT will allow students in grades 10 through 12 to visit Chadwick International. Students indicate interest in the grant by filling out the Global Programs Application and then are provided guidelines for writing a grant proposal. Proposals will be reviewed by a two-campus committee. Contact Chad Detloff for more information: cdetloff@chadwickschool.org.

The CI ATHLETIC EXCHANGE will provide US athletes an opportunity to develop their cultural competence while practicing, living, and competing alongside their peers from CI. The program will occur from March 25 - April 2. Contact Ms. Danielle King with any questions about this program.


SPEAK UP FOR GIRLS: CAMBODIA will occur from March 23 - April 5 and is for Upper School students who care about justice for girls around the world and want to develop the courage and cultural competence to make lasting change. Participants will travel to Cambodia and build one-on-one relationships with girls who live in a village near the border of Thailand. Through a partnership with Easel School, participants will get to know their Cambodian friends and work collaboratively on projects while getting to see what village life is like. Through these relationships, participants will gain a deep understanding about the importance of education for all girls. A trip to Siem Reap and Angkor Wat will provide first-hand learning about poverty and exploitation in the city, ultimately giving participants a holistic understanding of one of the biggest global issues: the way that societies view girls. The ROUND SQUARE OF THE AMERICAS CONFERENCE is a regional version of the Round Square International Conference. Generally, regional conferences develop a stronger understanding of the host school and country in which it is located. Because all of the students come from the Americas Region, they spend a good deal of time developing leadership skills and creating goals for the region and executing regional business. This is a conference for students eager to learn about Round Square or who want to deeply consider questions and challenges of the American Continent and diplomacy. This year's conference will be hosted by Providence Day School in North Carolina April 15-21, 2018. For more information, contact Mark Pangilinan at mpangilinan@chadwickschool.org.

Chadwick partners with ten SEMESTER- AND YEAR-LONG STUDY PROGRAMS in locations both within the United States and abroad. These programs are all fully accredited schools that leverage their location to teach both "traditional" courses as well as an array of place-based options that make learning authentic and centered on real-world applications. Because Chadwick considers the academic and experiential nature of these programs of tremendous quality, the school waives Chadwick tuition for the semester or year away, and families pay tuition directly to the program. Chadwick financial aid does not apply to these programs, as all of the programs offer financial aid themselves. As all of these programs have their own application processes and deadlines, students interested in these programs need to take responsibility for their own application as well as contacting Mr. Detloff as soon as they think they might be interested in applying. Students who apply to these programs without submitting this application and meeting with Mr. Detloff will not receive a recommendation from the school or a tuition waiver. ROUND SQUARE EXCHANGES are opportunities for students to visit another school in the Round Square network for roughly 4-6 weeks, generally over the summer break. Each individual Round Square School sets its own terms and conditions for the exchange and provides its own requirements, information and advice. Students can check the Round Square website to research schools (https://www.roundsquare.org/our-schools/) but should not contact the schools directly to arrange an exchange. After submitting this application, students and parents interested in these exchanges will meet individually with Mr. Chad Detloff to work through this customized experience.

Tentative Cost: Airfare plus food and incidentals (depend on the location of travel and the host school)


HOSTING AN EXCHANGE STUDENT can be one of the best ways to introduce yourself and your family to people of another culture while sharing and appreciating your own. We welcome 4-to-6-week exchanges through the Round Square network in grades 7-12 as well as a yearly ASSIST Scholar who is hand-picked by the US State Department and spends a full year at Chadwick. Contact Mark Pangilinan, our Host Family Coordinator, with any questions about hosting or to express interest. Host families are a vital part of our ability to make Chadwick the multicultural, global community it is!
