Annual Fund Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I give to Annual Fund?
It is the strength of Chadwick’s Annual Fund that provides for the margin of excellence in all that Chadwick does – beyond what is possible with tuition alone. Exceptional teachers, extraordinary students, competitive athletics, unbounded experiential learning, awe-inspiring arts – your gifts make it all possible.

How much should I give to the Annual Fund?
Each year, Chadwick receives Annual Fund gifts that range from $10 to more than $25,000. While large leadership gifts are crucial to Chadwick's financial stability, gifts of every size truly add up and have a significant impact. Cuurent families are asked to support the Annual Fund to the best of their ability. As a guideline, the Annual Fund Committee suggests families consider a gift equivalent to approximately 10% of their total tuition amount. Some families are able to give much more than this, while others can afford a much smaller gift.

May I designate how my gift will be used?
Although Annual Fund donations are unrestricted, donors to the Annual Fund have the option of designating their gift to a specific area in our "family of funds." Designation options include: faculty support, financial aid, and athletics, to name a few. All designations are budget relieving and still allow Chadwick the ability to use the gift in the year it is received. A complete list of designation options can be found on all Annual Fund materials.

Does it matter when I make my gift?
Yes; a gift or pledge made early in the school year is a great advantage to the school because it enables us to know how much money will be available to support the budget. Because of this, we ask donors to make pledges by Dec. 31, but gifts may be paid through June 30. Once you have made your annual gift or pledge, you will not receive another Annual Fund solicitation until the next academic year.

Why doesn't Chadwick operate like other businesses and charge the full cost instead of raising funds each year?
Like most independent schools and colleges, Chadwick uses a financial model that relies upon tuition revenues plus charitable contributions to the Annual Fund to fund its annual operating expenses. This model helps moderate tuition levels and allows families to help fund school operations on a tax-advantaged basis.
