This week, the Chadwick community engaged in important discussions about the impact of high school athletics on college admissions.
Students, parents and members of the Chadwick community gathered in the Laverty Center for the Performing Arts for the College Athletics Panel. Hosted by Chadwick Athletic Director Jamie Hoffman, the panel was a fun and informative opportunity to talk about the benefits of high school athletics with college professionals.
The panel members — Bates College Director of Athletics Jason Fein, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Director of Athletics Dr. Miriam Merrill and CSULB's Women’s Soccer Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia — discussed the differences between NCAA Divisions, the nuances of the recruitment process and general timelines for athletes interested in college athletics.
- How to best manage club/school dynamics through the recruitment process;
- College coach recruitment through showcases;
- Appropriate protocols and timelines for contacting college coaches and schools;
- Camp recommendations for aspiring college athletes.
It was an informative evening that will surely benefit both athletes who hope to compete in college as well as those who might use their high school athletic experience as part of their college application story.
