Chadwick's Elijah ("Ejayy") DeVaughn '17 Earns Rhodes Scholarship

We are so proud to share that alumnus Elijah ("Ejayy") DeVaughn '17 has been chosen to study at the University of Oxford in England as a recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

In the words of Upper School Director Mark Wiedenmann, Ejayy "did it all while in Chadwick's Upper School," excelling in every realm from academics to athletics, performing arts to community service. Currently a senior at Harvard University, Ejayy's academic passion has been exploring how rhetoric is used by Black political leaders to combat racial injustice, and he works on issues of legal representation, clemency and prison advocacy.

Most recently, Ejayy worked for the Secretary of Legal Affairs in the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, reviewing state prisoners' applications for commutations and pardons. He also previously worked on housing issues as an intern in the office of Senator and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. At Oxford, Ejayy intends to pursue a Master of Philosophy in History.

Congratulations, Ejayy! You will always be a Dolphin, and we will always be proud of you.
