Is Harry Potter truly the hero of his own story, or do other characters deserve more credit? In this course, we’ll explore what it really means to be a “hero” by taking a closer look at four key figures from the Harry Potter series: Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger, Severus Snape, and Draco Malfoy. Using evidence from the text and the movies, students will analyze each character’s choices, motivations, and sacrifices to determine who most embodies true heroism in the acclaimed series. Along the way, we’ll chart evidence, engage in structured debates, and think critically about courage, loyalty, and moral growth. And of course, we may even take a trip to the magical world of Hogwarts and sample some butterbeer while we wrestle with the ultimate question: Who deserves to be known as the True Hero of Hogwarts? (On the final day - July 2nd - students will spend the entire day at Universal Studios, Hollywood to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter). Course Fee: $1,150 |
