Athletics
Physical education is a regular part of the Sixers’ schedule (four times per week), and the instruction becomes more advanced as students have the opportunity to test the waters of competitive sports.
Sixers can choose from a variety of sports and physical activities at different periods throughout the year. There’s something for everyone and every skill level, and every participant will learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, problem solving and fitness.
Expert coaches help build students’ athletic skills and show them how to compete, win and lose with grace and sincerity. This plays an important role in a child’s ability to grow into a respectful adolescent — one who is self-aware, eager to try their hardest and always willing to support those around them.
These transferable skills can be used in their academics, arts practice and social life helping them develop into balanced and well-rounded Middle School and Upper School students.
Human Growth and Development
We all make decisions all throughout every day, but are they the right ones? Within this special course for sixth graders, students learn skills that set the stage for healthy decision-making. This includes how to recognize, understand and manage emotions — both their own and other people’s — the impact of technology on health, like social media, and even the upcoming changes of puberty.
Team Sports
How do you learn to persevere? Where does strength come from? These are questions we address and answer in sixth grade. Individual and team sports offer Sixers an opportunity to accelerate their growth and find new ways to rely on themselves. There are many options to choose from, including basketball, baseball, flag football, track and field, yoga, soccer, softball, volleyball and water polo.
Also, for the first time, students in sixth grade are able to choose to enter a competitive environment and represent Chadwick in games against other local middle school teams.
