Educational Approach

Every year at Chadwick, there is a gradual and intentional educational progression. And Upper School is where we blow things wide open!

In their earlier years at Chadwick, students have been exploring a large number of different academic subjects, arts programs, sports and activities. They’ve been given the chance to find out what they’re good at and what they like — and even what they don’t like.

In our Upper School, we help students identify and concentrate on their passions.

The schedule reflects this. Mondays are spent interacting with all the core subjects and classes. Then, the rest of the week switches to a block schedule where students really get the time to dig into some deeper learning. Our block schedule allows for classes that are more meaningful; the experience becomes more focused and the teacher-student relationship becomes that much stronger.

It’s also an approach that considers wellness — something we prioritize for all of our students. Upper School can be busy and stressful, so by giving our students more time in fewer classes, they have less daily homework and can truly work toward their goals. We also schedule community time twice a week — it’s a welcome and fun mental break so students can relax and connect with each other and with their teachers over lawn games, friendly competitions and light check-ins.
