Leadership and Character
At Chadwick, our sixth graders have the opportunity to lead the Village School before they transition into full-fledged middle schoolers.
At every step of their journey, Sixers are challenged, supported and inspired to be their best selves, both academically and socially.
Each Sixer is assigned as the head of a “Village family,” which includes one student from each grade, kindergarten through fifth. They lead regular Friday gatherings — coordinating activities, planning games and overseeing community service projects — and serve as role models, practicing our Core Values in every interaction. It’s a natural way for our Sixers to learn character and responsibility as they see how younger students look up to them.
Supporting this journey, every sixth grader takes a semester-long leadership course where they learn and practice essential skills like effective communication, conflict resolution and ethical decision-making in a safe, collaborative environment. Through hands-on projects, reflective exercises and peer feedback, Sixers build the confidence, empathy and integrity they’ll carry into Middle School and far beyond.
Our approach is practical, real-world character development at its best — setting up our Sixers for success in Middle School and beyond.
