Leadership and Character
Chadwick Middle School is a carefully constructed environment designed to support and guide our students on their journey. It’s a welcoming, safe and supportive space where experienced, compassionate teachers, mentors, coaches and advisors place a strong emphasis on character development.
This includes a focus on making sure every decision, activity or endeavor — large or small — is in alignment with Chadwick’s Core Values of compassion, fairness, honesty, respect and responsibility. These values are intentionally reinforced and explored through our academic curriculum and advisory program, as well as embedded into the daily lives of our students.
As students face increasingly complex decisions in Middle School, we support them in navigating how to apply these Core Values. We provide more freedom to make choices, understanding that character is built when students have the opportunity to feel the weight of their decisions and the chance to flex their "character muscles" and demonstrate integrity.
Leadership is another important concept that runs directly through each aspect of our Middle School experience. Students learn how to put themselves out there, test their comfort zones, take charge, and act as an example and inspiration for those around them, especially our younger students. They also have increasing opportunities to serve in more formal leadership roles through our Outdoor Education Program, Community Engagement, Student Council and a variety of other student clubs and organizations. Leadership is developed through the experience of leading, and we strive to give students multiple opportunities to build that capacity!
In Middle School and continuing through Upper School, we ask our students to pursue high ideals when it comes to doing the right thing and making a positive difference in the world.
